He was a man of black and white. And she was color. All the color he had.

A Man Called Ove written by Fredrick Backmann is a heartwarming story that teaches us a beautiful lesson. This book makes us feel a whirlwind of emotions. There were times when I felt happy, sad and hopeful.

Blurb -Ove is almost certainly the grumpiest man you will ever meet. He thinks himself surrounded by idiots – neighbours who can’t reverse a trailer properly, joggers, shop assistants who talk in code, and the perpetrators of the vicious coup d’etat that ousted him as Chairman of the Residents’ Association. He will persist in making his daily inspection rounds of the local streets. But isn’t it rare, these days, to find such old-fashioned clarity of belief and deed? Such unswerving conviction about what the world should be, and a lifelong dedication to making it just so? In the end, you will see, there is something about Ove that is quite irresistible.

As we know from the title, Ove is that grumpy old man with whom we all are familiar. He is that grandpa in our neighbourhood who lives alone, and we are all afraid of. The author should definitely be applauded as he treads carefully on difficult topics with a subtle splash of humour to make it easy for every reader. How much ever we say we want to be alone, humans always seek the warmth of our loved ones. The loneliness that comes with Ove is portrayed in such a way that all I wanted was to hug Ove and say it’s okay not to be okay sometimes. I am a fast reader who completes a book mostly in a single sitting or two days max, but with this book it was different. I took my time while reading this one. Each time when Ove decided to give up, I couldn’t read further. The pain felt by Ove can be felt by the readers while reading. However, I had to come back to know if there was even a small strand of hope left in our dear old Ove. I recommend this to everyone out there. I am sure you will love reading this.
